CASE HISTORIES
Celia Heley St Albans: Suffering with hot sweats and sleepless nights I was diagnosed by my GP as menopausal. I tried convential HRT, and it does solve the problem, but there is always a feeling that somehow its wrong to keep taking chemicals and hormones in this way. I looked for a more natural solution and tried over the counter remedies. It wasn’t until I found Dr Tupper and I decided to have a look at a more natural remedy, that I solved both the problem and the dilemma.
This next history I have written with the permission of the gentleman to whom it refers. He is in his eighties and out of the blue developed diarrhoea and jaundice (yellowing of the skin). His GP was very concerned and did a number of tests and referred him under the 2 week cancer wait; at this point he saw a nurse who told him he needed a CT scan (the GP had told him this). this and many other tests were done, but no advice or treatment was given. He asked my opinion, and yes I was very concerned about the diagnosis, but felt there were things he could do to help his symptoms. Firstly diet- when there is jaundice, fat cannot be absorbed and causes very unpleasant diarrhoea, the liver also metabolises protein, so I recommended a very low fat and low protien diet, but plenty of carbohydrates; absolutely no alcohol and no paracetamol as both these are metabolised by the liver. I also recommended Milk thistle (Carduus marianus) as this can prevent some poisons from entering liver cells. The patient’s bowel symptoms were helped almost immediately, and over a few weeks the jaundice resolved. no cause was ever proven, but it was thought to be due to some antibiotics taken some 6-8 weeks beforehand. In the midst of this episode the patient was recommended to take a further course of antibiotics, but my advice at the time was not unless absolutely necessary because of the jaundice, thank goodness he did not take them.
