Herbal medicine uses full strength plant medicines, compared to Homeopathy which uses very diluted medicines, usually, but not always plant derived. The use of these medicines is ancient, often centuries of observation support their use, and with a number of herbs, modern research has confirmed their effect. A Herbalist is specifically trained to prescribe Herbal Medicines
Whilst most herbal medicines are safe and have few side effects, in the wrong hands, some can be dangerous.
A Herbalist is trained to diagnose, just like a Doctor, but the way they look at illness is different, the herbalist thinks more about all the body systems which might be involved in helping
the body to repair itself. The importance of lifestyle and dietary change is also key to a Herbalist’s treatment.
Herbal medicine can be used for most, but not all ailments. The Herbalist will tell you if she/he thinks you need to visit your GP. Often herbal medicine can work alongside conventional treatment.
I work in Kendal in the Lake District, seeing patients for individual consultations and providing herbal medicines specifically formulated for the patient by post.
